Who wins the battle of Brondell vs Bio Bidet? That’s the question I answer for you today. I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing both Brondell and Bio Bidet and feel more than qualified to deliver an unbiased answer. If you’re new to bidets, the clear winner in the luxury bidet department is Toto. However, Toto Washlets and bidet toilets cost a lot more than a Bio Bidet or Brondell bidet. Bio Bidet and Brondell are a better comparison because both companies offer mid-range & budget options. Let’s start by taking a look at both company profiles before comparing their products.
Brondell vs Bio Bidet: Company Profile
Brondell manufactures a range of purification products for home use, while Bio Bidet specializes in bidets. Both companies sell top-rated bidets that grab the most attention on online shopping venues.
Brondell Company Profile
Brondell officially started in 2003, but the idea began back in 1990 when the founder of the company, Dave Samuel, traveled to Tokyo. He had just graduated high school and chose to travel to Tokyo before embarking on his journey at MIT. While in Tokyo, he encountered a smart bidet in a restaurant, and his inner-techie grew curious.
That chance encounter with a bidet in Tokyo planted the seed of what would later become Brondell. Despite manufacturing a wide range of both air & water filtration products nowadays, Brondell started as a bidet manufacturer. This means that the company has about two decades of experience manufacturing bidets.
Whenever I compare two companies, I like to know exactly how much experience both companies have manufacturing and designing their products.
Brondell headquarters is in San Francisco, and since the company’s inception, Brondel has gone on to win several prestigious awards, including the Good Housekeeping VIP Award and Electronic House Home Health Technology Product of the Year.
According to the BBB website, Brondell has been in business for over 15 years. The company currently has an A+ BBB rating, though, they are not officially BBB accredited. As of now, the company has zero reviews on Trustpilot.
Bio Bidet Company Profile
When I first land on the About Us page on the Bio Bidet website, it’s obvious that the company didn’t spend much time on it. It’s a few lines of marketing jargon that talk about how great their products are and their sales team is. Compared to Brondell, Bio Bidet has no story to tell. When I invest in a product for home use, I like to see more of a story and company history. I think we can all agree that a mom-and-pop feel is better than a corporate feel. Brondell certainly wins that point.
Bio Bidet does not have a BBB page or a page on Trustpilot. With Bio Bidet, all you have to go off is the customer reviews. This isn’t necessarily a good thing since there’s a lot of shady practices used in customer feedback. I’m not saying that Bio Bidet feedback is fake. I’m just saying that it’d be nice to see more qualifications to prove the company is a bidet authority.
The good news is Bio Bidet is a US-based company in Crystal Lake, IL, though the company spelled it “Crytal Lake” on its website.
Who is more trustworthy?
Brondell wins this round. Misspellings, lack of company history, and no BBB or Trustpilot rating for Bio Bidet make the company a bit of a question mark.
Brondell Swash SE400 vs Bio Bidet Ultimate BB-600
These are two of the companies’ most popular bidet seats. Each seat sells for about the same price – at the time of this writing – and offers similar functionality. Below, I share a feature comparison chart between the two models.
Swash SE400 vs Ultimate BB-600 Notes
Considering these bidets are currently selling for about the same price, I find some of the differences interesting. Below, I put together a list of key points to consider when choosing between the two models:
- Bio Bidet offers a 2-year limited warranty on its BB-600 unit, while Brondell offers a 1-year warranty on the SE400. Considering these aren’t exactly cheap, Bio Bidet does come out the winner here. Plus, Bio Bidet customer service does appear responsive and ready to replace any defective units.
- Brondell bidets feature a single stainless steel nozzle, while Bio Bidet uses a dual-nozzle system for front and rear washing. While a dual nozzle might seem better in theory, most people find that it’s unnecessary. Even Toto uses a single-nozzle system in its units, and Toto Washlet toilet seats do a better job than any other bidet on the market. Both Bio Bidet and Brondell nozzles are self-cleaning.
- The Swash SE400 offers a night light, and the BB-600 does not. Most users, including myself, like having a night light because it eliminates the need to use the bathroom light during late-night trips to the pot. There’s also a special inviting ambiance that a night light creates. Brondell wins here.
- Bio Bidet’s BB-600 has a higher max weight capacity of 400 lbs compared to 275 with the SE400. The BB-600 is also slightly lower profile at 5.6″ max height, yet about a half-inch shorter than the SE400.
- The final point is the most important. For roughly the same price, the BB-600 does not offer programmable user settings. This is a dealbreaker for me when choosing between the Swash SE400 and Ultimate BB-600. Programmable user settings are usually only found on units that cost more than double the price of the Swash SE400. This feature at this price point wins me over.
Who Wins?
Considering the extra premium features in the Swash compared to the Bio Bidet, I give the nod to the Brondell SE400. Depending on the weight of the user and how important a longer warranty period is to you, the BB-600 may be the better choice.
Brondell Wins!
Bio Bidet Reviews vs Brondell Reviews
To keep this comparison fair, I want to share the pros and cons of owning each of the models above. Since no bidet is perfect, here’s what to expect from each.
Brondell Bidet Reviews
- You might find that the dryer is on par or even better than a Toto bidet for a better price
- Quiet operation of all moving parts
- Adequate water pressure for both front and rear washing
- The heated seat works consistently and is quite nice to have during cold winter months
- A blue LED night light makes nighttime trips to the bathroom easier and more comfortable
- The SE400 delivers the best value for the money (includes features typically found in a luxury toilet bidet)
- Visually appealing, won’t scare guests away
- Ergonomic and intuitive controls
- The materials are sturdy, and the lid is strong enough to sit on
- The massage feature makes the washing experience a delightful one
- A cleaner bowl environment and less dirt accumulation around the toilet hinges without manual cleaning
- Installation is easy for most people
- The limited warm water supply may not deliver a consistently warm water temp on the highest setting
- No option to adjust the width of the bidet spray stream might not completely eliminate the need for TP for some
- A couple of reports regarding inconsistent warm air dryer function
- A handful of quality control issue reports and failed units
Bio Bidet Reviews
- The slow-closing lid works quite well to avoid accidents and slamming sounds
- Water and air dyer only functions when seated on the bidet (good for avoiding any accidents)
- The adjustable air dryer gets the job done (be sure to push the dryer button twice to switch it onto high)
- The heated seat works marvelously
- Fewer complaints about the limited warm water supply than for the Brondell Swash
- Operation and installation are both simple
- You may grow fond of the oscillating and pulsating functions
- You might feel that the components in the rear of the seat push you too far forward
- No programmable user settings equal needing to adjust it to your liking each use
- Water pressure may feel too high even on the lowest setting
- Seat discoloration may occur
- Durability issues (units failing several times over a period of several years)
- Mixed customer service marks (enough claims about the company not standing behind its units to warrant concern)
Bottom Line
Overall, Brondell makes the better bidet in my honest opinion. Brondell manufactures the best budget bidet models that are the most reliable. Brondell also has a long track record of manufacturing quality bidets, and Bio Bidet does not. Bio Bidet does not have a BBB rating or a Trustpilot score. Personally, I’d like to know more about the company before I buy a bidet from them. Even my pedestrian writing skills are light years beyond the quality of the writing on the Bio Bidet About Us page.
Another point I want to highlight is the suspect nature of the Bio Bidet feedback. Overall, Bio Bidet products have a vast majority of stellar feedback, yet after spending time reading the company’s marks, the negative feedback appears more authentic. When positive feedback is a paragraph long and doesn’t explain much beyond the functionality of the product, I tend to question the authenticity.
That’s not to say that Brondell reviews are perfect. Every company has negative reports and a certain level of quality control issues. However, when I look at the Brondell reviews, they appear more authentic to me than what I see on the Bio Bidet page.
Lastly, for roughly the same price, you get more features in the Swash SE400 than the popular Bio Bidet BB-600. The night light and programmable user settings are both worthy features to look for when shopping for a bidet. Brondell materials are of higher quality than Bio Bidet’s as well. That’s about it. As for Bio Bidet vs Brondell, Brondell wins.
I am very happy to read this comparison. I had bio bidet 2000 for 6 years and had several problems. The soft seat stopped working. In winter it made cracking sound! Finally, it started leaking water . Finally, had to remove the seat. Buying a new one instead getting it repaired. Which costs $185+shipping and no warranty! Going for Brondell LT99.
Hey, thank you for taking the time to share your experience. It really means a lot to people who might be on the fence. I hope your experience with Brondell has been better!
